Things You Will Need For Your Lesson
☐ A quiet space
☐ Steady internet connection
☐ Fully charged device
☐ Certain device settings (see below)
☐ Zoom: test singing to a friend/family member over Zoom before your first lesson
☐ A place to set your device at about eye level so your hands are free and we are able to see one another
☐ Music stand or some other way to have the top of your sheet music at about shoulder level with the ability to write on your music
☐ Pencil with an eraser
☐ Ability to play back the recording of our Zoom call so you can practice along with it
☐ Ability to print PDFs that I send to you
Helpful But Not Mandatory
☐ Plenty of light shining on your face
☐ It is best to stand while singing during your lesson unless you are unable to do so
☐ Have a chair handy
Device/Zoom Settings
In order for the sound of your voice to transmit online to me during your singing lessons, you will need to adjust your device/zoom settings as follows. Follow all instructions that pertain to your device. If you need more help, please contact me.
*Device Settings For Windows Laptop
Setting: ‘Disable audio enhancements’
Instructions to ‘disable audio enhancements’ if needed:
☐ Open “Settings”.
☐ Click on “System”.
☐ Click on “Sound”.
☐ Click on your preferred output device.
☐ Be sure “Audio Enhancements” are turned off (this setting may be under “Advanced Settings”)
*Device Settings For MacBook laptop
Setting: ‘Disable audio enhancements’
Instructions to ‘disable audio enhancements’ if needed:
☐ Open “System Preferences” app – it has a gear icon.
☐ Click on “Sound” – it may have a speaker icon.
☐ Click the “Output” tab.
☐ Click on your preferred output device.
☐ Check for any “Sound Enhancer” or “Enhancements” options within the device settings and toggle them off.
*Zoom Settings For Cell Phones
Setting: ‘Use original audio’
Instructions for ‘original audio’ setting if needed:
☐ Open Zoom app
☐ Find More in the lower right corner and Click on More
☐ Scroll down to Settings and then Click on Meetings
☐ Find Use original audio and then Click to turn On
☐ ‘Use original audio’ setting is now complete!
*Zoom Settings For Windows and MacBook Laptop
Setting: ‘Original sound for musicians’
Setting: ‘Microphone volume input level’ set to 75-80%
Instructions for ‘original sound for musicians’ settings if needed:
☐ Open Zoom
☐ Find Audio in the lower left corner
☐ Click the ^
☐ Find and Click Audio settings
☐ Find Audio profile and Click Original sound for musicians
☐ ‘Original sound for musicians’ setting is now complete!
Instructions to adjust ‘Microphone volume input level’ (continuing from where you just left off)
☐ Find Microphone
☐ Find Input level
☐ If you are using a plug in microphone, position it about 12 inches from your mouth (give or take).
☐ If you are using the microphone built into your laptop, just proceed to the next step.
☐ Sing loudly as you watch the input level line. This line shows you how well the computer can hear you. You want the line to show about 75-80% blue on the loudest notes.
☐ If the sound of your loud singing is registering at 75-80%, then your ‘Microphone volume input level’ setting is complete!
☐ If the sound of your loud singing is registering less or more than 75-80%, then adjust the
microphone volume (not speaker volume).
☐ The microphone volume is located just below the Input level
☐ Find Volume
☐ As you sing loudly, Click and Drag the blue dot left or right so that the Input level is about 75-80%.
☐ ‘Microphone volume input level’ setting is now complete!
